Why Use

NUTRITIONAL STATUS

The MEDEC CALORIE-FIT can be used to accurately assess metabolic and nutritional status.

Firstly, the measurement of resting metabolic rate is very important to maintain normal energy balance and to prevent weight fluctuations. By accurately assessing the number of calories expended per day, the amount of food consumed can be prescribed for either weight loss, weight gain or weight maintenance.

Secondly, resting metabolism can change significantly during a day or over an extended period of time. Regular monitoring of metabolism can identify a change in metabolic rate and often pinpoint the reasons for change such as change of diet, medication use, reduced physical activity or stress.

Another important factor in weight control is the type of fuel that is being expended each day. The MEDEC CALORIE-FIT will assess the ratio of fat compared to carbohydrate being expended by a person. All too often, a person has difficulty losing weight because the amount of fat being expended by the body is far too small.

The MEDEC CALORIE-FIT provides specific recommendations for Health Practitioners and their clients for the following conditions;

  • low metabolic rate
  • high metabolic rate
  • low fat burning
  • high fat burning

The MEDEC CALORIE-FIT software has many other features and specific information for Practitioners working in the nutritional area.

EXERCISE TESTING

Measuring the maximal consumption of oxygen (VO2 Max) during exhaustive exercise using an indirect calorimeter is considered the “Gold” standard in exercise testing.

This VO2 Max test using an indirect calorimeter is commonly used by many countries of the world to identify, develop and monitor the progress of elite athletes, particularly endurance athletes. Possessing a very large capacity for consuming oxygen is a significant advantage during exercise. Further, using oxygen efficiently at different exercise intensities is also important in elite competition and this can be measured by the MEDEC CALORIE-FIT.

Another important use of the MEDEC CALORIE-FIT is to assess the fat to carbohydrate usage at differing exercise intensities. For example, many people that perform exercise routines assume that they are burning fat but due to the wrong exercise intensity, no fat is in fact expended. Using the MEDEC CALORIE-FIT, the optimal fat burning exercise intensity can be identified.

HEALTH STATUS

The cardio-vascular stress test using indirect calorimetry to assess respiratory function is considered the “Gold” standard in health testing.

The MEDEC CALORIE-FIT is ideal to perform resting, sub-maximal and maximal tests to assess a client’s level of health.

Two of the major health problems facing modern-day societies are obesity and diabetes. Both diseases are reaching epidemic proportions in many developed and undeveloped countries.

The MEDEC CALORIE-FIT is an essential tool to assist Health Practitioners to identify key factors contributing to these conditions.

Obesity - can identify poor calorie expenditure or very low fat burning rate.

Diabetes - poor metabolism of carbohydrates
